Gun owners had best go check their dictionary if they think they "suffer" with stricter gun laws

The tug of war over guns in America seems to be over suffering. While gun rights extremists claim that they would suffer under restrictive gun safety laws, their arguments pale in comparison to those affected by gun violence. Not by a long shot.

I posted the preamble to the U.S. Constitution this morning on my Facebook page. I felt compelled to after the shooting Thursday night in a Louisiana movie theater. In a short fifty-two words, it states:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

I agree with this in the sense that I don’t think restricting guns to “law-abiding” gun owners trumps Americans’ rights to “Domestic tranquility” and “general welfare”. No sir, not even remotely.

And neither does Sandy Anglin Phillips, mother of one of the victims of the Aurora movie theater shooting. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence shared the feelings of the mother of one of the slain victims in the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting. This post by Sandy Anglin Phillips is a MUST read:

“For 3 years I have protected my heart from too much brutal information about Jessi’s death. I knew she had been shot 6 times and I knew she had been shot in the head with an armor piercing .223 bullet. Today I read the autopsy report. I chose not to view the photos, but viewed a diagram of what was done to her tiny body and read the horrible words in the report.

Her right leg was ripped apart and the bullet entered into her left leg. Her abdomen received 4 bullets and received additional fragments. She received fragments in her right wrist and several other places. Her left clavicle was broken by a bullet.

My beautiful daughter’s headshot put a 5 inch hole through her orbital (eye) and blew her brains out. A 5 inch hole.

I share this horror because no mother, father, family should ever have to walk this horrendous path of pain caused by gun violence. Those of you who are already involved in making change happen….YOU are our heroes. Those of you who aren’t….don’t wait until this is YOUR story.

In this country, today, this very day, this can happen to any of us. If you think it can’t, you are in intense denial. And the fact is, we can all do something about this.

So, if you, gun rights extremists, think you’re going to have to “suffer” a little in order to secure our right to live free and safe, you are the whiniest child that ever existed, throwing a tantrum over dangerous toys you want but shouldn’t have. Don’t you EVER think that your “suffering” with stricter gun laws would in any way compare to Sandy Anglin Phillips’ suffering.

Don’t you even dare.

I am a software consultant who believes that the sooner we learn to accept and love the diversity of all peoples, the sooner we will figure out how to improve everyone's lives, which benefits us all. I love dogs, writing, gardening, photography and movies. I love dogs, did I mention that already? Mine are a three-pack of Beagle-ish boys named Fred, Homer and Atticus. I truly hit the doggie jackpot, but I usually do. Shelter dogs are the ONLY way to go!

  1. There was a lack of consensus on the Constitution, and it’s preamble, until the Bill of Rights was added to the document. Clearly the Founding Fathers found no contradiction between access to arms and the objectives of the Preamble; and neither do I.

I know a guy who posted comments in support of open carry when white people were going down local streets scaring the crap out of people, but when an article was done about Sandra Bland, he said the cop was justified in his behavior because, “What if she had a gun? He didn’t know if she was armed or not!”

Another paranoid sexually deviant fool who thinks somehow firearms are related to sexual equipment and/or prowess and people who peacefully exercise their fundamental natural rights are out to push violence and needless death and destruction on them. Have you taken your meds? You seem a little nervous about people exercising perfectly normal rights under the first form of government in fifty centuries to establish the rights of the individual as superior to kings and princes and neighborhood warlords and paranoid little doofuses who uses fear and paranoia to insult decent people. Perhaps you can explain to us why your fears and paranoia justifies your advocacy to destroy our 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 10th Amendments — our Rule of Law in other words — just so you don’t have to grow up and be a man. Can you do that?

          • Your right to a gun does not trump the rights of the rest of us to live peacefully and not in fear of death from a bullet when I go to see a movie. There are many rights enumerated in the constitution you so love. Your precious second amendment does not take a front seat to my right to domestic tranquility.

You have a right to defend yourself from a bullet when you go see a movie; you don’t have a right to deprive others of their right to defend themselves from a bullet when they go see a movie. You don’t have a “right” to “domestic tranquility”: “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We need not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your cvhains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” (Samuel Adams, one of our founding fathers when he heard the same kind of crap you are spouting. You keep trying to subvert our U.S. Constitution to the point of confiscating our arms, you will be engaging in a violent insurrection and you will get your “domestic tranquility” inside prison walls. See 18USC2383 and associated statutes. If anyone loses their lives over your treason, you will face execution. You might want to rethink your agenda. Liberty is not always “peaceful,” but you have a duty to defend it.

        • Gun owners aren’t pushing “needless death and destruction.” Gun owners don’t want needless restrictions that have no effect on what people want to actually reduce.

        • I could, and do, say that logic and fact don’t work with those who would strip me and others like me of the right to bear arms, enshrined in the Second Amendment and implicit in my right to life and liberty. Do not mistake this for a lack of empathy for the victims of shootings, but make no mistake: those on the left will slowly whittle away the right of the people to keep and bear arms until nothing remains. And then, one merely needs to open a history book to see what results.

        • For them to work with people who believe in the principles our nation stands for and was founded to preserve and protect, they first have to be logical and factual. Newsflash: There is no logic in offering maniacs a defenseless target rich environment by hanging up “Gun Free Zone” signs. There is no logic (other than evil fraud) to demand that people waive their rights to be secure from unlawful search and seizure or to due process as a precondition to issuing permission (you don’t have and government doesn’t have) to exercise a right: ANY right. If you want people to give up their right to self-defense unless we can satisfy some FBI wonk in a basement somewhere, then you should be willing to give up your right to be secure from search and seizure and due process before you are allowed freedom of expression on this board, or freedom of religion or no religion, or your right to petition government for redress of grievances, or your right to travel, or your right to an education of your choice, or your right to live where you wish based upon your resources, or your right to work at an occupation of your choice based on your qualifications, etc., etc. What you don’t understand — but believe me, what your Marxist apparatchik handlers DO understand — is that as soon as you win to your prize of a ban on guns, you will lose all of the above rights and if you don’t like it, talk to that man over there standing next to the mass grave with the shotgun in his hands.       • You will have a lot to worry about when we prosecute your ilk under 18USC2383 and associated statutes for violent insurrection against our Constitution for violating our 4th, 5th, and 10th Amendment rights in your subversive efforts to destroy our 2nd Amendment rights. We are trying to save you from prison by demanding that you back off from your attempt to subvert and destroy our Rule of Law by rendering our 4th, 5th, and 10th Amendment rights null and void: You cannot lawfully compel us to suffer an unwarranted interrogation and search of our records and loss of our rights to due process just because you want to live wrapped up in cotton batting where a criminal can murder you at any time with impunity. We are done with putting up with your crap, and we will not comply one more inch. And we are going to repeal and/or rescind the illegal Brady Act and the GCA of ’68 and the NFA of ’34 and you can whine and snivel and go into narcissist meltdown and have all the temper tantrums you want and it will not change a thing — except put you in prison if your temper tantrum hurts someone.           • I was there up until shortly after the Tasmanian massacre happened, and the Adam Henry used a firearm that was already illegal to own. The four years I was there the commie jerks in the government, supported by the commie jerks in the trade unions, produced bogus study after study claiming that carnage would reign if they allow anyone to have handguns outside of a gun club safe and range, or military caliber rifles, or shotguns on any property smaller than an outback station — just like the commie gun ban jerks in this country do almost constantly. There’s always some doofus with “Piled Higher and Deeper” after his name willing to produce a bogus statistical study countering legitimate studies, but we’ve wised up to you and we are no longer buyhing your crap and we are no longer cooperating with your gun control and background check scams.
