Frank Oatley

Originally from the Florida Keys; I’m now a retired Sailor with 20 years of honorable service under my belt. I've seen the world from the decks of aircraft carries and stood on the shores of more than a dozen countries. I have hauled the lines of freedom and weighed the cost of liberty. I am an environmentalist, a life-long student, and an outdoors-man. While I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember for personal pleasure, I became a professional writer in 2008, a few years prior to my retirement from active duty. I like to refer to myself as a POMEL. A Proud, Opinionated, Militant, Educated, Liberal and I can hit an argument with the right facts to win the fight.
Change America

To Change America, We Must get S.M.A.R.T.

For the past forty years, we have been so busy arguing among ourselves about what color flowers to plant in America’s front yard that we have failed to notice the corporations stealing everything in the house.

A Case for Space

This July will mark the third year that the United States hasn’t had a manned space program since it was conceived in 1958. Our congressional leaders looked at our space program and decided that sending Americans into space was just too expensive.

Gun Legislation Masturbation

Gun Legislation Masturbation

With the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy creeping up on us, I have come to one singular disturbing conclusion: we did not get new gun legislation passed because the Democrats didn't want it

PTSD During the Holidays

For many Americans this is the time of joy and excitement, but for some, it’s a time of dread and despair. Odds are you or someone you know will be suffering from some sort of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) this holiday season. Hopefully we can help.

The Rent in Afghanistan is too Damn High

On November 20th of this year, NBC news published a story that got little air time. You might have missed it with Zimmerman getting arrested and all; but according to a draft of a key U.S. - Afghan security, deal American forces could remain in Afghanistan until 2024. To add to my frustration, this agreement seems to be something the US is in favor of and is pressuring Karzai to sign.
universal healthcare in the us

Conservatives want Universal Healthcare In the US (and don’t know it)

When I then ask them “So what you’re saying is that you want a single-payer system?” they respond with a resounding “NO” Then, when I rephrase it: “Well then, how about Medicare for all?” they smile and tell me “Yes, of course.”
hope in America

Hope in America: The Fire Still Burns

It’s been ugly folks, there’s no denying it. What we can’t lose sight of and what we can’t forget is that we have made great strides forward toward building the nation and society we want to leave to our children.
