The American Dream is a foregone delusion. There has been a sustained shift of wealth, out of the hands of the many (the middle class) and into the few (the incredibly, disgustingly rich). This is the big picture that is the umbrella, the parentheses that encompass our societal and cultural problems.
There's a storm brewing in North Carolina and it might warrant a greater category than has yet been measured. But this isn't a hurricane, it's a social movement. A growing group of citizens has been gathering to protest the actions of state Republicans who have been enacting policies that benefit a small contingency of privileged individuals.
Last Friday, some folks at Pine Eagle Charter School in Halfway, Oregon pulled a surprise drill on a group of teachers. Two masked men burst into a teachers meeting (kids were not present at school that day) and started shooting. Sure, they shot blanks and nobody was physically injured, but there are greater repercussions here.
